is a project started by Joe S. to spread mental health awareness through Jiu-Jitsu. It means that we ‘roll’ for a reason and the mats are our safe space, they give us comfort in times of trouble and they are there, even when our world goes to sh*t.
The aim of this project or this platform is to give people who struggle with mental health issues a ray of light and tell them that they are NOT ALONE!
Through this project, we talk about the mental side of things and look at Jiu-Jitsu, with all its beauty and horrors. We also dissect Jiu-Jitsu and all the strings attached to it under the microscope of philosophy and psychoanalysis.
When I am not reading about philosophy or Lacanian psychoanalysis, I can be spotted rolling as a blue belt in Hamburg, Germany. That said, I have an ongoing battle with depression since time immemorial because depression is very good in guard retention and my over-under passing sucks. Have also written a book about how life is basically worthless and once upon a time I used to conduct press-conference with the who’s who of football. Been also published all around the world, so yes, I can WRITE, write.
P.S. My dream is to spar with Slavoj Zizek on the mats. (Sorry Bernardo Faria)
